If you’ve dreamt about an elopement in the redwood forest, you’ll be inspired by Annika and Ben’s story. They reached out wanting an intimate elopement in the forest, hoping to capture their love in a dreamy and nostalgic way. I couldn’t wait to bring this vision to life for them. Annika told me they found a secluded spot within the Forest of Nisene Marks State Park in Aptos, California, to say their vows surrounded by close friends and family members.
It started with Annika getting ready at a friend’s house. It was quiet, warm, and you could feel the anticipation from the bride, her mother, her future mother-in-law, and her maid of honor as they got ready together in the sunlit kitchen.

As Annika finished getting ready, I went to meet Ben and his groomsmen at the designated elopement spot. It was a circular grove of redwood trees down a small path off the main road. It was tranquil and serene and full of dappled sunlight. Ben was excited and nervous to see his beautiful bride for the first time. We made conversation as the wind rustled the leaves, and soon, Annika was there, ready for their first look.

The elopement ceremony was short and sweet. After they said “I do” and shared touching moments with their family, it was time for bride and groom portraits. Annika and Ben frolicked through the forest, entwined with one another, bashful as they shared their first intimate moments as husband and wife. Their love was expressed in quiet glances and soft touches. Finally, Annika wanted to run down the main path hand-in-hand. Clutching her bouquet in one hand and Ben’s hand in the other, they ran down the dirt road lined with towering trees. It was romantic, effortless, and a moment they’ll always cherish. It made me appreciate how simple and beautiful an elopement in nature can be.

An intimate wedding or elopement can be whatever you want it to be. It’s less about the grand celebration and festivities, and more about a simple joining of two people in love. I would be honored to capture your intimate wedding or elopement, whether it’s in the California redwoods or somewhere else. Considering there are less guests and less moving parts, we can focus even more on storytelling and capturing the authentic connections and small details.
If you’re dreaming of a magical forest elopement near Santa Cruz California, I couldn’t recommend the Forest of Nisene Marks State Park more. It is an expansive forest of beauty and rugged wilderness. There are many hiking trails, benches, and waterfalls off the beaten path. Go here to find more information about this state park and all it has to offer.
If you’re planning an elopement or intimate wedding and are looking for a photographer who will capture the emotional depth that makes your love story unique, I’ve got you. In the meantime, check out more beautiful moments from Annika and Ben’s session on my website and Instagram!
